Summer of the Eunuch, 2003- 2015     Archival Inkjet, 32”x40”

In 2003, the lives of my effeminate male friends fascinated me. I shot a series of photographs of my muses. My eunuchs.   Because these young men and I were friends, they allowed me into their intimate space.

I didn’t want the audience distracted with preconceived stereotypes, so I asked them to tuck their penises. I also felt this would soften there bodies further.

Shortly after shooting the images they were stored and not viewed again until October 2015.

After revisiting the images, the same intimacy that struck me when I shot them still remained.  I noticed an innocent that I hadn’t before and there was also something in the images that seemed hunting to me.

After working with the negatives I knew I wanted to share the innocence of our youth and the haunting memories of that summer.
